Asante Kotoko triumphed over Hearts of Oak to win the inaugural Democracy Cup on Wednesday, July 17. The match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, ended with a 2-1 victory for the Porcupine Warriors, reinforcing their dominance over the Phobians.

Justice Blay opened the scoring for Kotoko after 30 minutes, converting a penalty awarded to the Kumasi-based side. Kotoko had several chances to extend their lead but settled for a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Asamoah Boateng equalized for Hearts of Oak, giving their fans hope for a comeback. However, Amidu restored Kotoko’s lead in the latter stages, securing the 2-1 win.

This victory marks Kotoko’s third win over Hearts of Oak in the 2023/24 season. The win also grants Kotoko the opportunity to face DC United in a friendly match later this year.
