Asamoah Gyan Claims NPP Exploited His Fame for Electoral Gains

Former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leveraged his popularity to gain votes during the 2024 general elections.

Gyan, who had been appointed to chair the “Youth and Sports” sub-committee for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign, resigned from the role just weeks before the elections. He attributed his decision to a desire to focus on his humanitarian endeavors, following a viral video that captured a confrontation between him and an NPP official.

During a live Instagram session, Gyan expressed his frustration, stating, “They [NPP] used my popularity to get votes from the people.”
