Apologise to the Sports Minister Because you have lied – GBC DG told

Jamaludeen A. Abdullah, the Executive Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports, has called on Professor Amin Alhassan, the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), to issue a public apology to Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif. The call for an apology stems from what Abdullah described as misleading statements made by Professor Alhassan regarding the funding for the 13th African Games held in Accra.

In a recent interview on Adom FM’s *Dwaso Nsem* morning show, Abdullah accused Professor Alhassan of distorting the facts about the financial transactions between the Ministry and GBC. He emphasized that the Director-General’s comments had caused unnecessary confusion among the public.

The controversy centers around conflicting reports about the allocation and use of funds for the African Games. The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, had informed the Public Accounts Committee that the Ministry had disbursed over $3 million to GBC for the production and broadcast of the event. However, Professor Alhassan countered this claim by stating that GBC only received $105,000, with the remainder being directed to third parties.

Abdullah insisted that the Sports Minister could not have misappropriated funds that were not meant for the Ministry and that a public apology from Professor Alhassan is necessary. He also mentioned that they are awaiting a formal response from the GBC Director-General before releasing documentation to clarify the situation further.

The discrepancies in the financial accounts between the Ministry of Sports and GBC have sparked a broader discussion on the need for transparency and accountability in public financial dealings.
