A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The Jet A-1 aircraft, with registration number 9G-AFW, was traveling from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by severe weather conditions. Both the pilot and crew members escaped unharmed, according to Citi News sources at the scene.
This is the second such incident in recent days. Over the weekend, another helicopter with registration number 9G-ADW made a precautionary landing at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben after encountering turbulent winds and poor visibility mid-flight. The aircraft, which was carrying four passengers, remained grounded for about an hour before resuming its journey.
The incidents come in the wake of the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers Edward Omane Boamah (Defence) and Murtalla Mohammed (Environment) along with three other government officials and three crew members.
