The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) intensified its city decongestion campaign on Wednesday, May 21, with its taskforce storming the bustling Circle Neoplan Station to clear unauthorized structures and street vendors.
This marks Day 2 of the initiative aimed at restoring order, improving traffic and pedestrian flow, and enforcing sanitation regulations in Accra’s busiest areas. The operation follows Tuesday’s launch of the campaign, which targeted hotspots including Kinbu Road, Railways, ECG Junction, and Opera Square.
Officials have urged the public to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth and non-confrontational process.
In a related development, Accra Mayor Michael Allotey announced that items seized during the exercise will now be donated to the Ghana Prisons Service ending the previous practice of auctioning confiscated goods. The AMA maintains its commitment to making Accra cleaner, safer, and more accessible for all.
