Alleged Goat Thief Paraded Through Community in Kparekpare

A 55-year-old man, identified as Abalo Kwesi, was publicly humiliated after being accused of stealing a goat in Kparekpare, a farming community near Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region. The incident, which occurred on August 22, 2024, saw the alleged thief paraded through the township with the stolen goat draped around his neck.

The spectacle quickly drew a large crowd, with residents, including children and youth, gathering to witness the event. Many sang songs to further disgrace the suspect as he walked through the community, which has been plagued by a series of goat thefts in recent months.

Local residents, frustrated by the repeated thefts, claimed that Kwesi had been terrorizing the community by breaking into homes at night to steal goats. Mr. Kasim Jein Gbandi, a resident, recounted how children stumbled upon Kwesi in the act, having killed a goat in the bush. The children raised the alarm, leading to his arrest by a group of locals who quickly arrived at the scene.
