Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, expressed how deeply hurt he and his family were by the baseless allegations made against him by fellow police officers. These officers accused him of orchestrating the leaked tape and holding its original copy, which he vehemently denies. These allegations, lacking any evidence, tarnished his family’s reputation and the entire police service.

Dr. Dampare appeared before a bi-partisan Committee in Parliament to address the ongoing probe into the alleged plot to remove him from office before the 2024 general election. Commissioner of Police George Alex Mensah, a witness in the probe, believed that the tape existed before being doctored.

Dr. Dampare pointed out that when these allegations were initially made, there was no evidence to support them. He expressed the pain these baseless accusations had caused him, his family, and the police force he leads.

The IGP emphasized his innocence and his dedication to his job of maintaining national security. He questioned the fairness of allowing unfounded claims to tarnish his reputation and the integrity of the police service.

Despite the pain these allegations caused him and his family, Dr. Dampare appeared before the committee out of respect for himself, his family, the institutions of the state, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the people of Ghana. He committed to answering all questions regarding these wild allegations made by his colleagues.
