In a thrilling finale at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Ghana’s Black Princesses secured a historic victory, dethroning Nigeria to claim the 2023 All African Games women’s football title.
The game started with a 23rd-minute setback for Ghana, as a goalkeeping error gifted Nigeria the lead. However, the Black Princesses displayed resilience, entering the second half with renewed vigor. Tracey Twum’s 77th-minute strike leveled the scores, setting the stage for an intense battle.
With the score tied at 1-1 after regulation time, the match proceeded to extra time. It was Ghana’s Mukarama Abdulai who became the hero, netting the decisive goal in the 98th minute.
Despite Nigeria’s efforts, they could not breach the Black Princesses’ defense, sealing Ghana’s victory. The game ended 2 – 1 in favor of the Black Princesses of Ghana.
This victory marks Ghana’s 11th gold medal in the ongoing All African Games.
The celebrations are expected to continue as the Black Satellites aim to secure another gold medal in their final against Uganda at the Accra Sports Stadium.
