Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has scored his first-ever goal for the Black Stars in a thrilling 1-1 draw with Niger during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers held in Berkane, Morocco.
Seidu, who currently plays for French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes, opened the scoring for Ghana in the 44th minute. After receiving a well-timed pass from Mohammed Kudus, Seidu unleashed a powerful strike that sailed past Niger’s goalkeeper, Younoussa Hainikoye, marking a memorable moment in his international career.
However, Niger found an equalizer in the 81st minute when defender Oumar Sako took advantage of a loose ball inside Ghana’s box and netted the equalizer, ending the match in a 1-1 stalemate.
Seidu, 25, played the full 90 minutes and delivered a solid performance, contributing two key interceptions and winning five of eight ground duels. This match marked his second start in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, following Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola.
Having joined Stade Rennes from Clermont Foot in June 2024, Seidu has already made three league appearances for his new club. His strong showing in the qualifiers has further cemented his role in the national team.
The Black Stars are set to continue their AFCON campaign as they look to secure qualification for the 2025 tournament.
