Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to a thigh injury. The 30-year-old Fenerbahce defender, who plays in the Turkish Super Lig, sustained the injury during a match against Alanyaspor on Friday night, forcing him to leave the pitch in the 61st minute.

Medical assessments revealed that Djiku suffered a Grade One strain in the front part of his right thigh (Quadriceps). This type of injury typically requires a recovery period of 10 to 14 days, effectively ruling him out of Ghana’s crucial qualifiers.

Djiku had been named in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for the matches, but his absence will now force the Black Stars to adjust their defensive lineup as they prepare for the fixtures against Angola and Niger.
