Alan Kyerematen, the founder and leader of the Movement for Change, has promised to introduce significant reforms to improve the living conditions of Zongo communities across Ghana if elected as president. A key aspect of his plan is the integration of Arabic school teachers, known as “Makaranta” teachers, into the Ghana Education Service (GES), ensuring they receive regular government salaries.
Speaking at the launch of Zumunta, the Zongo wing of his party, Kyerematen criticized both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for neglecting the Zongo communities despite their longstanding support during elections. He emphasized that Makaranta teachers deserve the same recognition and benefits as other teachers in the country.
“It’s unfortunate that Makaranta teachers are not considered part of the Ghana Education Service because teachers are teachers all over the world. I am committed to ensuring that when I become President, we will integrate Makaranta teachers into the GES,” Kyerematen stated.
The event, held in Darkuman within the Ablekuma North Constituency, drew a large crowd of supporters. Kyerematen met with local leaders, including Chiefs and Imams, to rally support for his presidential campaign. The electorate expressed strong backing for his candidacy, citing the need for change and their dissatisfaction with the dominance of the NPP and NDC.
Leaders of allied parties and movements also urged voters to support Kyerematen, highlighting his vision for a better Ghana and the importance of change in the upcoming election.
