The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election, Bernard Bediako, has declared the contest a “done deal” for his party, expressing confidence in securing victory.

Speaking to Channel One TV on Saturday, August 23, Mr. Bediako admitted that the NDC’s campaign was initially delayed due to internal primaries and the recent helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives. However, he maintained that momentum has since shifted in favour of the opposition party.

“We didn’t start our campaign early as compared to the other side because of the tragedy that hit us and the primaries we had to go through. They didn’t, so we lost some time. But I can assure you that the tables have turned completely, and they know it. God willing, it is a done deal for me and the NDC,” he said.

The by-election will see Mr. Bediako, who also serves as the NDC constituency secretary, face off against Solomon Kwame Asumadu, constituency treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Meanwhile, former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has expressed confidence that the NPP will retain the Akwatia seat in honour of the late Ernest Kumi, the MP whose passing triggered the by-election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
