Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced a cabinet reshuffle that includes the replacement of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The decision comes amid mounting criticism of Ofori-Atta’s management of the country’s economic challenges, as Ghana strives to recover from its most severe economic downturn in decades.

Ken Ofori-Atta, who has been at the helm of the finance ministry, overseeing efforts to restructure the government’s debt, will be succeeded by Mohammed Amin Adam. Adam, currently serving as the minister of state at the finance ministry, previously held the position of deputy energy minister responsible for the petroleum sector.

President Akufo-Addo appointed Ofori-Atta as finance minister in 2017, promising to tackle unemployment, poverty, and spur economic growth through tax cuts and administrative reforms. However, Ofori-Atta has faced strong criticism from both opposition members and lawmakers within his own party for his handling of Ghana’s economic challenges.
