Akufo-Addo installed as Lay Canon at St. Peter’s Cathedral

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as a Lay Canon at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral within the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.

The honour recognises his service and commitment to the Church. A Lay Canon is a non-ordained individual given the title “Canon” for exceptional contributions, leadership, and support to church activities, though without clerical authority.

The ceremony was officiated by Felix Odei Annancy and attended by prominent clergy, including Gershon Allottey Okine, Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, and George Neequaye.

During the event, Akufo-Addo took an oath of allegiance, pledging to serve the Church with dedication and uphold its doctrine and discipline in line with the constitution of the Church of the Province of West Africa.

Church leaders described the installation as a significant moment, drawing a large gathering of clergy, traditional leaders, politicians, and members of the public.

Special prayers were offered for the former President, asking for guidance and strength as he takes on his new role in the Church.
