Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has threatened to sue former President John Dramani Mahama if he continues making what she describes as derogatory remarks about her candidacy for the 2024 elections. The threat was issued during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra on Tuesday.
Donkor expressed her dissatisfaction with what she claims are repeated negative comments by Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding her qualifications for the upcoming elections. She highlighted that she has consistently faced such remarks from Mahama, whom she accuses of undermining her position in the political landscape.
“I founded the party [GFP] in 2011 and got it registered in 2012. I formed it myself, I did not take members from any other party. Anytime he [Mahama] speaks, he speaks against me,” Donkor stated during the meeting.
Akua Donkor emphasized that she followed all the rules set by the Electoral Commission (EC) and duly qualified to run for office, asserting that she deserves to be treated with respect. She has warned that if the derogatory remarks persist, she will take legal action against Mahama to protect her reputation.
The Ghana Freedom Party leader has been a vocal figure in Ghanaian politics and is preparing to contest in the upcoming 2024 elections. Her latest stance signals her readiness to defend her candidacy against perceived slights from fellow political figures.
