Presidential Candidate Akua Donkor Reported Dead Just 39 days to Elections

Akua Donkor, the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has reportedly passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra. Her death was confirmed by a family source on Tuesday, October 29, who disclosed that she died on the previous day, October 28. Specific details about her passing remain unknown.

Akua Donkor was a passionate advocate for farmers and women’s rights, known for her outspoken and bold approach to representing grassroots communities. As the leader of the GFP, she became a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics, running for the presidency multiple times despite financial challenges.

Throughout her political career, she contested two elections and was listed as the third candidate in the 2024 presidential race. Akua Donkor’s journey in politics began when she was elected as the Assemblywoman for Herman.

Her first presidential bid in 2012 was as an independent candidate, though she was disqualified by the Electoral Commission. Undeterred, she continued her activism and later supported Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

Her political aspirations faced challenges; she was again disqualified in 2016 after a fire incident at the GFP’s headquarters in Kabu, Eastern Region, disrupted her campaign efforts.
