Reports indicate that Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the current Deputy Majority Leader, is set to take over from Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs. While it remains uncertain if Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will retain his position in government, he is likely to be appointed as the Chairman of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto Committee.
In a related development, Frank Annoh Dompreh, the incumbent Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, is expected to be elevated to the role of Deputy Majority Leader. This move would create an opening for Habib Iddrisu, the current First Deputy Chief Whip, to assume the position of Majority Chief Whip.
Furthermore, Patricia Appiagyei is reportedly in line to be appointed as the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, following the nomination of Lydia Seyram Alhassan as Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation.
The position of Second Deputy Chief Whip is likely to be filled by Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the MP for Sefwi-Akontombra.
A crucial meeting of the NPP’s National Council is scheduled for Monday to effect these changes and other adjustments to the majority front bench, following a recent ministerial reshuffle by President Nana Akuffo-Addo.
In a separate development, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, is expected to unveil his campaign team to the party’s National Executive Committee and National Council on Monday, February 19, 2024. The team members’ names are expected to be disclosed after the meeting.
Among the anticipated appointments, sources within the party suggest that Dan Botwe, the former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, is likely to be named as the campaign manager for the 2024 general election. Botwe was among the ministers who were relieved of their posts last week in President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffle.
