AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Ghanaians Call for the Sacking of Otto Addo After 2-0 Loss to Sudan

Ghanaians have voiced their frustration, calling for the immediate dismissal of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following the team’s unexpected 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars were hoping for their first win of the campaign after a series of underwhelming performances. Ghana had previously lost 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and drew 1-1 with Niger in Berkane.

In the first leg against Sudan, the team managed only a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium. However, in the return fixture held at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya, the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat, with second-half goals from Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud and Mohamed Abdelrahman sealing the win for Sudan’s Falcons.

The defeat leaves Ghana in third place in Group F, with just two points from four matches, casting doubt on their qualification for AFCON 2025. The Black Stars must now win their remaining matches against Niger and Angola to stand a chance of qualifying.

In response to the loss, many Ghanaians took to social media, demanding Otto Addo’s removal as coach, expressing disappointment with the team’s performance throughout the qualifiers. Fans are urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make changes ahead of the crucial upcoming matches.
