Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a Form Two student of Adventist Senior High School who suffered a severe eye injury from an accidental shooting earlier this year, is now recovering well after a successful eye surgery in the United Kingdom.
The surgery was conducted at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and confirmed by Rafik Mahama, special aide to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 26.
“I am pleased to announce that Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang successfully underwent her scheduled eye surgery on June 2, 2025, at Moorfields Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom… The operation was a success, and Suzzy is now on the path to full recovery. She has already begun regaining her independence and is now able to see on her own,” the post read.
Rafik Mahama expressed deep gratitude to the medical teams in Ghana and the UK, especially the specialists at Moorfields Eye Hospital, for their exceptional care.
He also recognized the support of several individuals and institutions who contributed to making the surgery possible, including Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Ghana High Commission in London, outgoing UK High Commissioner HE Harriet Thompson, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Roger Pope Opticians in London, Suzzy’s family, the media, and the general public.
A special tribute was paid to Ibrahim Mahama, whose financial and logistical support ensured Suzzy could be flown to the UK for urgent medical attention.
“We are especially grateful to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, whose generosity and full support made this entire process possible for Suzzy,” Rafik stated.
Suzzy was flown to the UK on May 10, 2025, following overwhelming public concern and calls for assistance after her life-threatening injury. Her successful surgery has since been celebrated across Ghana as a powerful example of what collective effort and compassion can achieve.
