Accra: Roads Reopen After Democracy Hub Protest Standoff

The Ghana Police Service has reopened major roads in Accra following a three-day closure due to a standoff with protesters from the Democracy Hub. The roads, blocked since September 21, 2024, were reopened on the evening of September 23 after failed negotiations over the protest route led to disruptions in the city.

The protest, organized by Oliver Barker-Vormawor, saw road closures in key areas as police attempted to maintain public safety and prevent further disruptions. Barker-Vormawor, along with about 40 protesters, was arrested for alleged unlawful acts during the demonstration.

During the road closures, traffic was redirected through alternative routes, including:

The police thanked the public for their patience and assured them that law and order will be maintained following the reopening of the roads.
