Flights between Accra and Dubai have been cancelled following escalating tensions in the Middle East after reported bombings in Iraq and retaliatory military actions across the region.
Information from flight tracking platforms indicates that Emirates flight EK 788, scheduled to depart from Kotoka International Airport (ACC) at 7:15 pm GMT on Saturday, February 28, 2026, has been cancelled. The flight was expected to leave Terminal 3 and arrive at Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 6:50 am local time (+04) on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The cancellation affects services operated by Emirates between Kotoka International Airport and Dubai International Airport. Flight status updates show that the service will no longer operate as planned, with gate details listed as unavailable.
The disruption comes amid heightened security concerns in the region. Several countries, including Qatar and Kuwait, have reportedly closed their airspace following the latest wave of military action and retaliatory strikes.
The closure of key air corridors has significantly disrupted commercial aviation routes, forcing airlines to suspend or reroute flights. Dubai serves as a major transit hub for passengers travelling from Ghana to Asia, Europe, and North America, meaning the suspension is expected to affect connecting travellers passing through the United Arab Emirates.
Although Emirates has yet to release a detailed public statement regarding the specific Accra service, airlines operating through the Gulf region are actively reviewing their schedules as the security situation evolves.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, had been killed. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Mr. Trump described Khamenei as “one of the most evil people in history” and characterised the alleged killing as “justice.” He also suggested that heavy and targeted bombing would continue “as long as necessary” to achieve what he described as peace in the Middle East.
There has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding the claim.
Airlines operating in the Gulf region continue to assess developments. Passengers scheduled to travel on affected flights are advised to contact their respective airlines for rebooking or refund options as the situation unfolds.
