Eight men involved in violent disturbances during the Ablekuma North re-run have been convicted and sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court.
The convicts Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed (alias Bomba) were each fined 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢6,000. Failure to pay will result in 24 months’ imprisonment.
The men appeared before His Honour Isaac Addo on Friday, August 29, 2025, and pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the prosecution, the incident took place at the Methodist Church Polling Station during the re-run. Victims of the attack included Hawa Mavis Koomson, former Minister of State and ex-MP for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Prosecutors revealed that the accused persons launched an unprovoked attack on the victims. Mrs. Koomson and Mr. Saana were assaulted first before the group turned on Mr. Kwei.
The case, which began on Monday, August 26, was fast-tracked following the accused persons’ admission of guilt. The trial concluded with their conviction and sentencing on Friday.
