A United States District Court in Nevada has approved the extradition of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu to Ghana to serve her 10-year prison sentence.
The court ruled that it has jurisdiction over the case and confirmed that the extradition treaty between the United States and Ghana is valid. It also verified that the individual before the court is the same person wanted by Ghanaian authorities and that all supporting documents were properly certified.
Additionally, the court determined that there is probable cause to believe she committed the offences for which Ghana is seeking her extradition.
Following the ruling, the court ordered that she be held in the custody of the United States Marshals Service while awaiting a final decision by the U.S. Secretary of State on her surrender.
Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in Ghana in April 2024 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour on multiple charges, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy, money laundering, and procurement breaches.
She left Ghana before the conclusion of her trial after being granted permission to travel abroad for medical reasons and was later tried in absentia.
The case forms part of broader efforts by Ghanaian authorities to recover misappropriated state funds and enforce accountability.
Her co-accused, former MASLOC Chief Operating Officer Daniel Axim, was also sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
The offences, committed between 2013 and 2016, involved the misappropriation of funds intended for MASLOC operations, including unaccounted loans, misused public funds, and inflated procurement costs.
