Police Kill Key Suspect in Akropong Awukudae Violence Crackdown

Police have shot dead a key suspect linked to the recent violence during the Awukudae celebrations at Akropong after a gun battle that lasted nearly two hours.

The operation took place in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026, led by the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate with support from the National Police Headquarters.

According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Kwasi Ansah Eku, also known as “Dragon,” opened fire when officers attempted to arrest him, leading to an exchange of gunfire. He was eventually shot dead.

Two other suspects — Bright Ofori Asante, also known as “Bonto,” 33, and Kwame Ayeh, alias “Saboba,” 41 — were arrested after being identified in footage connected to the incident.

Additionally, 19-year-old Elvis Adjei was arrested for allegedly obstructing police during the operation.

All three suspects are currently in police custody in Koforidua, assisting with ongoing investigations, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
