Three suspected armed robbers, including two Level 400 students of the University for Development Studies (UDS), have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in Tamale.

The suspects, Peter Abugri (24), Asuma Shaini (22), and Yakubu Wakasu (19), were apprehended following a robbery incident along the Bolga-Nasia road.

According to police reports, the victim was attacked while briefly stopping by the roadside. The assailants, armed with a pistol and knife, made away with an iPhone 17 Pro valued at GH₵21,000 and a Haojue motorbike worth GH₵19,000.

The breakthrough came when the victim tracked the stolen phone, revealing the suspects’ movement toward the North East Region. Acting swiftly, officers at a checkpoint intercepted one of the suspects along with the stolen motorbike.

Further investigations led to searches at the suspects’ hostels, where police recovered additional items, including a pistol, machetes, and a jackknife.

The suspects have since been formally charged and remanded into custody. The case has been adjourned to April 19, 2026, as investigations continue.

The involvement of university students in such criminal activities has raised concerns about youth crime and security in the Northern Region, particularly within tertiary institutions.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
