The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Yunyoo-Nasuan District Assembly to recover GH₵30,759.16 from a former Social Development Officer, Godfred Yahaya Musah, over alleged unearned salary payments.
The directive followed issues raised in the Auditor-General’s report during the PAC sitting held in Tamale on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
According to the audit findings, Mr. Musah vacated his position on January 1, 2024, but allegedly continued to receive salary payments until June 2024, resulting in the amount in question.
The Assembly’s Finance Officer, Abdul Dafari Yakubu, told the committee that the matter remains under dispute because the former officer denies claims that he abandoned his post.
He explained that management is still investigating the full circumstances surrounding the issue and noted that a formal query had earlier been issued regarding alleged absenteeism.
However, auditors raised concerns about inconsistencies in the attendance records, indicating that some signatures submitted to justify the officer’s presence at work appeared questionable and may have been fabricated.
Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee, Kwame Gakpey, warned that if the allegations are proven, the matter could amount to serious criminal offences including impersonation and fraud.
He stated that a signature that does not belong to the actual person constitutes criminal conduct.
The PAC has therefore ordered the Assembly to recover the full amount or face possible prosecution proceedings.
