Police arrest suspect over viral video causing fear and panic

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Evans Puplampu, in connection with a viral video that allegedly caused fear and panic among the public.

According to the police, the video showed the suspect with his face covered, posing as a bandit under the caption: “We are starting from Ghana churches.” The post reportedly spread rapidly on TikTok and triggered widespread public concern.

Following intelligence gathering and surveillance operations, officers tracked and arrested the suspect on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22.

During interrogation, Evans Puplampu reportedly admitted that he was the person in the video. He told investigators that he had imitated a similar trending social media pose “for fun” and claimed he had no intention of causing harm or panic.

Police also retrieved a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, which was allegedly used to record and share the video. The device has been retained as evidence.

The suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court.

This case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media content that can incite fear, misinformation, or public disorder.
