Former Black Stars captain and coach Charles Akonnor has dismissed reports linking him with a return to the national team coaching job following the exit of Otto Addo.

Akonnor made it clear that his full attention remains on Gor Mahia F.C., where he is currently leading a strong title challenge in the Kenyan Premier League.

Speaking on the speculation, he stressed that he is happy in his current role and has no plans to leave at this stage.

“I am with Gor Mahia. I’m very happy. I’m doing well. We are fighting for the title, and that is where my focus is.”

His comments come after the Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo just weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a poor run of results, including defeats to Germany and Austria.

Akonnor, who previously coached the Black Stars between 2020 and 2021, said although he loves Ghana and will continue to support the team, he is not considering a return to the dugout at the moment.

Under his guidance, Gor Mahia currently sit at the top of the league table and are firmly in contention to reclaim the title.

Meanwhile, Ghana faces an urgent search for a new coach ahead of the World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in a difficult group featuring England, Croatia, and Panama.
