President John Dramani Mahama has embarked on an official visit to France at the invitation of Emmanuel Macron, where he is expected to participate in major global health discussions and hold bilateral diplomatic talks.
According to reports from the Presidency and multiple Ghanaian news outlets, the visit began on Monday, April 6, 2026. President Mahama’s first major engagement is the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, a high-level international gathering focused on strengthening global health systems, food sustainability, and coordinated responses to emerging health threats.
The summit, running from April 5 to 7 in Lyon, brings together heads of state, health ministers, scientists, and international organizations. The “One Health” concept emphasizes the close connection between human health, animal health, plant health, and the environment. Key issues on the agenda include zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, sustainable food systems, and environmental health.
President Mahama is expected to co-chair part of the high-level segment alongside President Macron and deliver keynote addresses outlining Ghana’s position on global health security and international cooperation.
Beyond the summit, he will travel to Paris for official engagements, including a bilateral meeting with President Macron at the Élysée Palace. Discussions are expected to cover health, education, trade, investment, and regional security, with the aim of deepening Ghana–France relations.
The visit also includes a meeting with Gérard Larcher at the French Senate to strengthen parliamentary and institutional ties between Ghana and France.
