Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the Artiste of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, expressing concern over what he sees as the exclusion of Wendy Shay from key conversations.

Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey, later shared on Instagram on April 4, 2026, Black Sherif stated that Wendy Shay’s contributions and impact throughout 2025 deserve recognition.

“I don’t like how people are not mentioning Wendy Shay’s name for Artiste of the Year,” he said. “I don’t really like the division, but if I’m being honest and looking at things as they are, I don’t like how she’s being overlooked. I feel she is eligible this year as well.”

His comments add fresh momentum to the already intense discussions among fans and industry stakeholders over who deserves the top honour at this year’s awards.

Wendy Shay is officially among the nominees for the Artiste of the Year category, alongside Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Medikal, and Diana Hamilton.

In 2025, Wendy Shay maintained strong visibility with a consistent stream of releases, major collaborations, impressive streaming numbers, and high fan engagement, factors many believe strengthen her case for the ultimate prize.

The main awards ceremony is expected to take place on May 9, 2026, in Accra, where one of Ghana’s most competitive Artiste of the Year races in recent years is set to be decided.
