Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to resign amid growing concerns over the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Mr. Kpebu’s remarks follow recent statements by Mr. Agyebeng, who alleged political interference and attempts by certain actors to undermine the work of the OSP.
However, speaking in an interview, Mr. Kpebu dismissed those claims, arguing that the challenges facing the office are largely self-inflicted rather than the result of external pressure.
“It is hogwash, absolute hogwash. It is the Special Prosecutor who has brought this unto himself. He should have left the office a long time ago. Kissi is not fit for that office,” he said.
He further criticised the OSP’s handling of high-profile corruption cases, suggesting that the office has failed to achieve significant outcomes in key investigations. According to him, this has weakened public confidence in the institution.
Mr. Kpebu also referenced the inability of the OSP to secure action in cases involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, arguing that such developments raise serious questions about the effectiveness of the office.
“If Kissi Agyebeng had any modicum of dignity, he would have resigned a long time ago. He should stop deceiving Ghanaians,” he added.
The comments add to ongoing public debate surrounding the performance and independence of the OSP, an institution established to lead the fight against corruption in Ghana.
