Eight Highway Robbery Suspects Arrested in Ashanti North Police Operation

The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspected highway robbers following a targeted intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command.

The suspects are believed to be linked to a robbery incident that occurred on March 26, 2026, at Aframso Bridge along the Mampong–Ejura highway. During the attack, six armed men reportedly robbed passengers aboard a SsangYong minibus travelling from Kumasi to Atebubu, making away with cash and mobile phones.

Police investigations led to a coordinated surveillance operation, which tracked the suspects to a hotel in Ejura on March 30. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the group sharing money suspected to be proceeds from the robbery.

The eight individuals arrested include Amidu Sajo (42), Ibrahim Sule (36), Karim Hadu (40), Malik Jibrilla (38), Yusifa Asakoko (23), Umaru Issifu (20), Damani Yamba (36), and Ibrahim Iddrisu, also known as “Bule” (43).

However, police disclosed that Ibrahim Iddrisu, who was on a wanted list for previous robbery incidents, was fatally shot during the operation. According to authorities, he attempted to attack an officer with a cutlass and tried to seize a service weapon while fleeing. He sustained gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital.

The police also recovered several items believed to be linked to the robbery, including two rounds of AK-47 ammunition, three cutlasses, eight mobile phones, a talisman, an identity card, and a cash sum of GH¢15,717.

The remaining suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the police continue operations to track down other accomplices believed to be at large.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling highway robbery and ensuring the safety of commuters, urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information.
