The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect following a string of disappointing performances in recent international friendlies.

The decision comes after Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team and a subsequent 2-1 loss to Germany national football team, results that raised concerns about the team’s readiness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a brief statement, the GFA expressed gratitude to Addo for his service, acknowledging his role in leading the team through key international assignments, including the 2022 World Cup. However, the Association indicated that a change in technical direction had become necessary.

Addo’s departure comes at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for a challenging World Cup campaign. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they are set to face England national football team, Panama national football team, and Croatia national football team.

The GFA noted that it will soon announce a new head coach as part of efforts to rebuild confidence within the squad and improve performance levels. The move signals urgency within Ghana’s football administration to address recent struggles and better position the team for upcoming competitions.

Despite flashes of improvement in their latest outing against Germany, defensive lapses and inconsistency ultimately cost the Black Stars, reinforcing the need for a reset as the countdown to the World Cup intensifies.
