Murals that were recently vandalised at the Asokwa Interchange in the Ashanti Region have been successfully restored by the student artists who originally created them.

The artworks, painted by Visual Arts students from selected schools, form part of activities marking AshantiFest 2026, an initiative led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.

The murals had drawn admiration for their creativity and cultural expression before sections were defaced by unknown individuals, sparking outrage among local authorities and residents. The motive behind the vandalism remains unclear.

Officials at the Asokwa Municipal Assembly described the incident as unfortunate, with Municipal Chief Executive Amo Kamel confirming that security agencies have been tasked to investigate the matter. Authorities are expected to rely on CCTV footage from cameras installed near the interchange to identify those responsible.

During a visit to the site on Monday, Citi News observed that the student artists had taken swift action to repair the damaged sections, restoring the murals to their original state.

Meanwhile, the Asokwa Police Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators as efforts continue to protect the artwork and preserve public installations in the area.

The restoration highlights the resilience and dedication of the young artists, even as authorities work to ensure accountability and prevent future acts of vandalism.
