The Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Atta Issah, has dismissed claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government inherited GH¢13 billion in fictitious arrears when it assumed office in 2017.
His response follows assertions by Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, the MP for Walewale, who claimed that the NPP administration uncovered about GH¢13 billion in questionable claims after taking office.
Dr Abdul-Kabiru made the statement during discussions surrounding reports by the Ghana Audit Service on government arrears and payables.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, March 11, Mr Issah challenged the Walewale MP to present documentary evidence to support the claim.
“I’ll begin by responding to one claim that Dr Kabiru made yesterday, and I think it has been repeated, that there were some GH¢13 billion fictitious payments or claims in 2017 when the NPP took office,” he said.
Mr Issah stated that he had previously asked the Walewale MP to provide a verified audit report confirming such figures.
“I challenged him to produce any verified audit reports on such claims soon after the NPP won the election in 2016. I’m repeating once again that there is no verifiable audit that said the NPP inherited GH¢11 billion to GH¢13 billion,” he noted.
According to him, the figures being cited are inaccurate and lack verified documentation.
“That was fictitious. If my brother has any documentation to that effect, I’ll be willing to engage him further on that,” he added.
