Techiman: Police seize 397 slabs of suspected cannabis hidden in charcoal bags

The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has arrested a 48-year-old tricycle rider after seizing 397 slabs of suspected cannabis in Techiman.

The suspect, identified as Robert Tannor, was arrested on March 8, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. following a road accident involving an unregistered “aboboyaa” (Motor King tricycle) he was riding.

According to the regional police command, the tricycle was transporting 14 bags of charcoal when it crashed into a stationary Kia Rhino truck near the Techiman Methodist Park.

Police officers who responded to the accident discovered compressed slabs of suspected cannabis concealed inside the charcoal bags. A total of 397 slabs were retrieved from the scene.

The suspect sustained severe leg injuries during the crash and was rushed to Holy Family Hospital for treatment, where he is currently under police guard.

Meanwhile, police say the Kia Rhino truck involved in the accident was driven away from the scene. Authorities are appealing to the public to assist in locating the driver to support ongoing investigations.
