The alumni community of Swedru Senior High School has expressed deep concern following the sudden transfer of the school’s headmistress, Golda Andam, amid claims of political pressure influencing the decision.

Miss Andam, an old student of the school, is widely credited by alumni for leading a significant turnaround at the institution after years of declining academic performance and weakened discipline.

Under her leadership, reforms were introduced to restore discipline, improve academic standards, and rebuild engagement with the alumni community. These efforts attracted renewed support from old students both in Ghana and abroad, leading to several development projects aimed at improving facilities and academic support at the school.

However, her leadership style is said to have drawn the displeasure of some political figures within the constituency who have historically sought influence over the school’s administration.

According to information available to the alumni association, a Member of Parliament allegedly directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to transfer the headmistress.

A letter reportedly sighted by members of the alumni community gives Miss Andam one week to vacate her post, with a deadline set for March 12.

The timing of the directive has raised concerns among stakeholders as the school is currently preparing for its Alumni Homecoming and Speech and Prize-Giving Day scheduled for March 20 and 21—an event Miss Andam has been actively planning with the alumni association.

The situation has also heightened tensions within the school community. Some teachers who openly identify as supporters of the National Democratic Congress are alleged to have begun taking matters into their own hands, claiming protection from political authorities in the constituency.

One incident that has particularly alarmed the alumni body reportedly involved a music teacher, Hlordze Tsikata, who allegedly assaulted the Global Secretary of the alumni association during an altercation on campus.

Witnesses claim the teacher declared himself an NDC supporter who enjoys the protection of the local political leadership.

The alleged assault has intensified fears among alumni and stakeholders about rising intimidation and political factionalism within the school.

Members of the alumni association say the issue goes beyond the transfer of a single headmistress and raises broader concerns about protecting educational institutions from partisan political interference.

Alumni leaders say consultations are currently ongoing both locally and internationally to determine the appropriate course of action as they continue to monitor developments at the school.
