President John Dramani Mahama is set to deliver the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament today, February 27, outlining his government’s performance over the past year and presenting policy priorities for the year ahead.
The address, delivered in accordance with constitutional provisions, is expected to provide a comprehensive assessment of the country’s current state, covering key sectors including the economy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and energy.
Members of Parliament, government officials, diplomats, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders are expected to attend the sitting, which traditionally shapes national discourse and guides policymaking.
On the economic front, the President is anticipated to address inflation, public debt management, revenue mobilisation, job creation, and broader efforts to stabilise the macroeconomic environment. With economic pressures remaining a major concern for citizens, he is expected to outline measures aimed at promoting growth, attracting investment, and easing hardships.
Infrastructure development is also likely to feature prominently, with updates expected on road construction, housing projects, water and sanitation initiatives, and other public works across the country. Ongoing flagship programmes and new development initiatives may also be highlighted.
In education, the President is expected to speak on reforms aimed at improving access, quality, and equity. This could include updates on school infrastructure, teacher recruitment and training, expansion of technical and vocational education, and strengthening tertiary institutions.
Healthcare delivery is another key area anticipated to receive attention. The President is likely to provide updates on investments in hospitals and clinics, recruitment of health professionals, and measures to improve access to affordable healthcare nationwide, including efforts to strengthen the National Health Insurance Scheme.
