A young mobile money operator has been shot dead at the entrance of his home in Garu in the Upper East Region in what residents describe as a targeted attack.
The victim, identified only as K2, was killed on February 24, 2026, at Bugnatenga, a suburb of Garu. Reports indicate he had closed from work and was returning home when unidentified gunmen ambushed him.
The attackers allegedly opened fire at close range, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.
The incident has sparked fear within the community, particularly among small business operators who say they feel increasingly vulnerable. Residents noted that the brazen nature of the attack, carried out at the victim’s doorstep, has left many shaken.
The killing adds to a series of gun-related incidents in the area in recent months, including a reported shooting at the Garu District Health Insurance Office and other attacks that have claimed lives.
The Ghana Police Service is expected to investigate the incident, as community members call for urgent security intervention to restore public confidence and curb further violence.
