The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has airlifted a victim of the recruitment stampede at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for specialised medical care.

According to a statement shared by the Ministry of Defence on February 26, 2026, the victim, Sarah Baafi Boateng, had initially been receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Following a medical assessment, she was referred for advanced care due to the nature of her condition.

A GAF Medical Evacuation team transported her by air to Accra, where she was received by a delegation from the Ministry of Defence led by Principal General Staff Officer Brigadier General Ben Gah before being handed over to specialists at the 37 Military Hospital.

The Ministry stated that the evacuation forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure the victim receives comprehensive and advanced healthcare support.

The incident occurred on November 12, 2025, during GAF’s 2025/2026 nationwide recruitment exercise. Thousands of applicants had gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for screening when heavy crowding and a surge at the entry points led to chaotic scenes and a crush.

Although no deaths were officially recorded in Kumasi, five individuals sustained injuries.

On the same day, a separate and more fatal stampede occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, where overcrowding resulted in six deaths and dozens of injuries.
