The Bono East Regional Police Command has returned a bag containing GHC85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered abandoned on the Techiman-Kumasi Highway.

According to a police statement, officers stationed at a snap check point found the bag on February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m. The bag, which appeared to have fallen from a moving vehicle, had the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it.

The officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, retrieved the bag and forwarded it to the regional command for proper verification and identification of the owner.

Police later contacted the number on the bag and reached 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori from Ashtown, Kumasi, who confirmed ownership. He explained that the money — amounting to GHC85,000 — was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when it was accidentally misplaced.

The amount was counted and verified in Mr. Ofori’s presence before the full sum was handed over to him.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the officers for their professionalism and integrity and also expressed appreciation to members of the public who assisted in bringing the matter to their attention.
