Police have re-arrested Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, also known as Baaluuse, a 33-year-old suspect linked to the killing of a police officer at the Kariminga police barrier in the Upper East Region.

The suspect was apprehended around 12:30 a.m. on February 17, 2026, during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the National Police Intelligence Directorate in Accra and the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Department.

He was arrested at his hideout in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga.

Iddrisu had been on the police wanted list in connection with the December 29, 2025 attack at the Kariminga police barrier, during which General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah was shot and killed. Two other officers, General Corporal Nyanku Charles and General Corporal Abu Moro, also sustained fatal injuries in the incident.

According to police sources, the suspect is believed to be affiliated with one of the feuding factions involved in the protracted Bawku conflict. Intelligence gathered suggests he played an active role in the violence that has troubled the area for years.

A preliminary search of three mobile phones retrieved from the suspect reportedly uncovered materials linking him and other suspects still at large to violent activities in Bawku. Investigators say the devices contained videos and audio recordings, including footage allegedly showing the suspect displaying several AK-47 rifles and pistols at a location believed to be within Bawku.

Authorities also revealed that an audio message extracted from the phones allegedly captured the suspect requesting additional arms and ammunition to support one faction in the ongoing conflict.

Further intelligence suggests that Iddrisu and another individual identified only as Mark who remains at large may have been involved in the importation of weapons and ammunition into Bawku.

Following the December 29 attack, the suspect reportedly went into hiding until police traced him to Polego and carried out the arrest.

He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while security agencies intensify efforts to apprehend his alleged accomplices.
