Two persons have been arrested in the Oti Region for allegedly transporting a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition without lawful authority.
According to police sources, the arrests followed intelligence received on Friday, February 7, 2026, indicating that a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS 4677–17 was transporting boxes of ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.
Acting on the tip-off, a team of intelligence officers mounted an ambush along the suspected route. On Saturday, February 8, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., the officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.
The search led to the discovery of a locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing a total of 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition. Police said the firearm and ammunition were concealed among building materials being transported in the truck.
The driver of the vehicle, Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, were arrested at the scene. The two suspects reportedly admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured as exhibits.
