
The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery that occurred along the Tamale–Buipe Highway in the Savannah Region on July 21, 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Rashida Yusif, Aaron Abana Baswiefanga, Wilson Avasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, also known as Virgin, Aminu Zebrilla, also known as Birdman, Inusah Sumaila, also known as Agenda, and Haruna Safiano.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, who were armed, attacked travelers along the highway and robbed them of mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, a laptop, and other personal belongings.

Police said an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Rashida Yusif, who was found in possession of an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims. Further investigations traced the phone to a mobile phone shop at Dagomba Line in Salaga, resulting in the arrest of Aaron Abana Baswiefanga and his uncle, Wilson Avasong, in Tamale.

Additional investigations led to the arrest of Muntaru Iddrisu and Aminu Zebrilla, an ex-convict, for their involvement in the sale of the stolen phone. A search conducted in Aminu Zebrilla’s room uncovered several items, including a locally manufactured short gun, a locally manufactured pistol, four live BB cartridges, a locally manufactured sword inscribed “Birdman,” one live 5.56×44 CZ ammunition, two live revolver ammunition, a face mask, a jack knife, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a talisman, a cutter, a catapult, fifteen assorted mobile phones, one jungle motorbike, seventeen assorted wristwatches, five pen drives, one Telecel SIM card, and three MTN SIM cards removed from stolen phones.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects currently on the run, who are believed to be in possession of additional weapons.
