A fierce fire outbreak tore through sections of the Dodowa Market in the early hours of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, destroying several metal containers and goods before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) managed to bring it under control.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 1:25 a.m., spread rapidly through parts of the market, sparking panic among traders and nearby residents. When firefighters arrived, thick smoke and flames had already engulfed multiple stalls, posing a threat to the entire market area.

Firefighters from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, were assisted by teams from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. Through swift and coordinated efforts, the fire was contained by 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:51 a.m.
According to reports, six metal containers were partially destroyed while 12 others, along with their contents, were completely lost. However, firefighters successfully salvaged over 50 market sheds and nearby structures, preventing what could have been a total disaster.
No casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.
The GNFS has launched investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire. The Service also commended the leadership of ACFO II Osmond Anum, Deputy Director of Operations, and officers from the Tema Region for their professionalism and teamwork.
