Fifteen Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region have officially endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a two-day campaign tour of the region. Speaking on behalf of the MPs on Wednesday, September 24, Achiase MP Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo said Dr. Bawumia has the credentials and experience to lead the party to victory.
The 15 MPs who declared their support include Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (Ofoase Ayirebi), Frank Annoh Dompreh (Nsawam Adoagyiri), Sammi Awuku (Akuapem North), and Ida Adwoa Asiedu (Ayensuano), among others.
Dr. Bawumia, a former Vice President, is contesting the NPP flagbearership against former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
The MPs expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership would strengthen the party’s chances in the 2028 elections.
