Ghanaian boxer Ernest Akushey, popularly known as “Bahubali,” has died just days after suffering a heavy defeat in the ring.

The 27-year-old passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, barely a week after his last bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Akushey, who trained at the Wadada Gym in James Town, was once an undefeated prospect with a 6-0 record. His “Bahubali” nickname was inspired by his fearless, crowd-pleasing style, reminiscent of the warrior hero in the Indian film.

His final fight on Saturday, September 13, saw him face rising contender Jacob Dickson in a super middleweight clash. The contest ended in an eighth-round technical knockout, with Akushey visibly struggling under intense pressure.

The tragic news has left the Ghanaian boxing fraternity in shock, with fans mourning the loss of a once-promising talent.
