An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced social media personality David Kwodow Prah Afful, popularly known as Kwame Nkrumah II, to seven months in prison for issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama, Members of Parliament, and other government officials.

Afful, who went viral in a TikTok livestream for threatening to kill public officials if he had access to weapons, pleaded guilty to charges of threat of death and offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The Ghana Police Service arrested him on Saturday, September 13, at his hideout near the Kasoa Market. In the video, Afful was also reported to have threatened journalists, civil servants using official green number plates, and to burn marketplaces while encouraging others to commit similar acts.

During proceedings, he appealed for forgiveness from government officials for his behaviour. However, the court handed him a custodial sentence, underscoring the seriousness of his threats.

In a statement following the conviction, the police reiterated that while freedom of speech is protected, threats and incitement to violence will not be tolerated as they endanger public peace and security.
