Ghanaian international Thomas Partey has appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London for a hearing on multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 32-year-old midfielder, currently with Spanish club Villarreal, faces five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman. The charges, confirmed last month, followed an extensive police investigation.
Partey, who was in London for Villarreal’s UEFA Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, featured in the match before attending court the next morning. This marks his second formal appearance at Southwark Crown Court, with proceedings expected to continue in the coming weeks.
If convicted, the outcome could carry serious legal and professional consequences, including potential impacts on his club career and international duties with the Black Stars.
Partey, one of Ghana’s most prominent footballers, has represented the national team at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He joined Villarreal earlier this year after a four-season spell at Arsenal in the English Premier League.
The case has attracted widespread attention given his profile, though Villarreal has allowed him to continue playing while the matter remains before the courts.
