The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented GH¢5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to boost the national fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The donation was made at a short ceremony in Accra on Monday, September 15, 2025, and is aimed at strengthening the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat, which coordinates the government’s efforts to tackle the menace.
According to GoldBod, the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to gold traceability and the promotion of sustainable and responsible mining practices across the country.
Receiving the items, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, commended GoldBod for the gesture and assured that the government remains resolute in its efforts to clamp down on illegal mining.
He disclosed that the Ministry is collaborating with the Attorney General’s Department to expedite the prosecution of offenders, while also engaging the Ministry of Transport to regulate the movement of excavators often used in illegal mining activities.
